My good pal Mike worked in the radio station in college. Now, he’s much older than I so when he was in college, I was in grade school and naturally had no knowledge of the scope of college radio. So of course I did not know his work. But that being said, apparently he was pretty good. People said he had a voice for radio. He ended up dropping it after a few years due to practical reasons and financial concerns, but it’s definitely something that he tried. He fell back on becoming a teacher and was able to find work there because of his easy-going and positive personality. After a few years teaching, he got the itch again and started doing voice overs for the local radio station. He was re-hooked. And now that he had give it up for a while, he re-gained some perspective on the whole situation and it was like he was approaching it with fresh eyes. I think he’s really going places.

There are many people making a decent living being an extra in movies worldwide. The extras in movies are people who do not have speaking roles and typically see less than 10-20 seconds of screen time. Prevalent extras can make upwards of $500 per scene if their part is vital to the scene, for example, someone cashing a check at the bank before the big star. To Become a Movie Extra you need no acting talent. All you need is a look that the director is needing and to be in the right place at the right time. The life of a movie extra is one that is under great scrutiny at all times. You can show up on a movie set and not be selected multiple times before you land something. Many movie extras do this work in their spare time. But if you land a spot it can be very well paid!
